Have you ever played a tune and have no clue or recollection where you heard it or the name of it? I'm sure that's pretty common with old-time banjo players who attend festivals and jams.
This morning, I woke up with a tune in my head. After showering and dressing for work, I walked back into the mancave and grabbed a banjo.
It quickly became pretty clear to me that it was not an A tune, so I grabbed another banjo tuned in D. And there she was.
I played the simple AA/BB tune over and over again for five minutes or so. To my knowledge, I have never played it before, have no idea where I heard it, and have no idea as to the name.
I may have picked it up at the Indiana Fiddlers Gathering or the Mount Airy Fiddlers Convention or maybe it was Mars Hill College. Heck, I don't know.
But I don't think that is so uncommon. I think we all have a few mystery tunes floating around.

That just drives me crazy. I'll get a tune in my head and can't think of the name of it. It'll stay with me for days until I finally figure out what it was -- or get another tune in my head (G) -- and I usually think of the name of the tune at like 2:00 a.m. and then forget it when I awake again - darn.

Post an MP3 of it. Maybe we can help name that tune.

Michael, thanks for your suggestion on posting an MP3 recording of this mystery tune. I think I will do just that, but only after completing my honey-do list. It seems that my wife's index finger tends to grow on weekends.
