Just moved to Maine

Posted by Russ Cox on Tuesday, July 15, 2008

Hello everyone, My wife and I just moved to Maine after 20 years in Pennsylvania. We are currently renting a place in Brewer but have found a permanent home in Pittsfield that we hope to be in by early September. I really want to buckle down and learn the clawhammer style of banjo. I tried finger picking but after playing the bass without a pick for all of these years, I need to feel the strings on my fingertips. Anyway, if anyone knows of a good clawhammer banjo player who want to teach this old a dog, I would greatly appreciate it.

You might  look on the home page under Lessons and see if there's any teachers in your area.  If not, try www.angiesbanjo.com -- she has a pretty good list of teachers, and another site is www.bluegrassbanjo.org.

Good luck finding a teacher.

Russ, Not all but most Old Time fingerpickers use bare fingers.

Nice looking banjo you have there in your profile pic. What kind is it? Is that a Dobson ring?

Regards

Thanks. It is a Wayne Sagmoen. Not sure about the ring.
