Anyone know if and how you can record to Audacity and save as mp3. I can, most likely fugure it out if possible but hat to waste the effort when someone else has been there.

Yes, you absolutely can... I do it all the time. There's a "convert" option under the file menu. It might be under "export." Just look around, it's there.

Perhaps the missing bit of info is that you have to download LAME, which is not included in the Audacity download. Check the Audactity download site and you will find a link to the proper version of LAME for your computer.
