Realizations

Posted by adam2180 on Friday, March 21, 2008

I have tried for many years to write decent songs. I have recently decided that most of them weren't very good. I don't think I really have anything to say that hasn't already been said before in a much catcher way. I don't think the world needs another love song. I have now put my efforts into learning as many old folk tunes as possible. There are so many great folk songs that are way more interesting then anything I could come up with

Hi Adam - well at least you have the satisfaction of knowing that you gave it a try. Well done for that!! Best wishes from the UK. Bryan.

Well, don't quit completely. If the mood hits you, just write what comes naturally. You may come up with the winner of the year! Do you know any little kids? Writing a song specifically for/about them really tickles their fancy. They may never make it big financially, but they'll make it big with the kids you write for. Just a thought in case you really don't want to quit writing.

I agree about the world not needing another love song. Just enjoy playing.

That's a noble activity!  I wish a lot more people would make the same decision.  There's too many songs and not enough people singin' 'em.

The premium placed on writing original tunes is a relatively recent development.  Elvis Presley never wrote any songs, and if was good enough for Elvis...

A good song is a good song but every one's idea of a good song is totally different. Don't be surprised if people pick the one you hate most as their absolute favourite, sure wouldn't be the first, and certainly not the last, time this has happened to a song writer...
