well its hotternhell here where i live and i just had another skin head pop on a banjo id forgotten to put in a case.yeah i know,i know, but it was a cheap goatskin on a weird old banjo hidden in a corner so it got me thinking. Rogers heads dont seem to split often, why is that?were they treeted with some magic stuff that got uninvented in the 1940s like so much else?why is it that everyone says never leave your dog in a hot car but not your cat,are catskins better on banjos than dogskins?where in the heck do you find possums big enough to make banjo heads out of.?when i was a boy on king islind i shot a lot of possums for the$2 bounty but i never saw a skin big enough.did them oldtimers, probly hallucinating on popskull, shoot their dogs for banjo heads then tell the children that Rex was off visiting a relation and that skin drying on the clothesline was only a possum? My father shot a lot of dogs, often the neighbors if they got after the sheep, and i once saw him hide money in the shearing shed.was he selling the skins for banjo heads? i got a emu skin from saul the bodhran maker and tried it,it sounded great but the weather made int like a trampopoline,so then i tried kangeroo which was no damn good at all,too tight and hard.some say pigskin is good, anyone tried it? Human skin might work but to get it would be diifercult, and probly all coverd with tattoos from ancient tribes as is the fashion with kids these days.Nope ,stick to dogs, cats ,and calfs, thats the ticket!
until next time,your friend(got 3 now!) skip

"Tan me hide when I'm dead, Fred
Tan me hide when I'm dead.
So we tanned his hide when he died, Clyde,
And there is hangs on the shed."
These are all the words I can remember. Seems the song really starts,
"Tie me kangaroo down, Sport.
Tie me kangaroo down."
But then I draw a blank. Might have been the Kingston Trio.

Regarding 'Tie Me Kangaroo Down' the first version I heard of that was done by Rolf Harris.

yep.popskull might be whiskey. but tie me kangeroo down was a folk song collected by freidrech pribac from an old codger named BLUEY DORRIGAN at harrietville,he could play some wild banjo and imitate the beasts and birds, also their calls, rolf harris was a beatnik who got bluey drunk and stole all his best material then went on to an international stage with it entertaining other beatniks and prince charles. you can hear BLUEY in the folk music arkives in canberra,or contact mr freidrech pribac for a copy,or maybe rf willis who is an authorite on old codgers and their music. How can it be 35 and snowing?its 42 here and hotternhell. Til next time.

One has to go to Canberra to hear Bluey? No recordings (even out of publication) circulating anywhere?

I lived near Sydney for a year when I was 3 or 4 years old, stepfather had a construction job there.
