Still plucking around

Posted by tombrien on Thursday, February 28, 2008

It has been nearly a year since I blogged here. I have kept practicing nearly every day and have completed the first book of the Hal Leonard banjo method. I also bought Geoff Howalds dvd's and beginning books. They seem to teach the same things as the Hal Leonard books. There are a good number of different tunes to learn, and I can see a bit of difference in playing style. I love sitting and just playing rolls over chords a lot. I need to learn more tunes, but have been content to just reinvent ways to play the ones I already know over and over. I have worn a spot through the coating on my banjo head skin where I plant my fingers. I had noticed this on some other banjos I have seen here and there. All in all, I've had a lot of fun learning to pick, and am looking forward to a lot of grinnin' in my future.

Tom, I remember about a year or so ago when I realized I had a wear-smudge on my banjo head.  I had never been so happy about dirt before!  Glad you're enjoying the journey--play for fun and the rest follows.
