Hello Letham, I am new to the banjo world, but in the South of England, Faversham, Kent, is Andy Banjos. http://www.andybanjo.com
You may already know about him, but banjos are his speciality. Go to this website, then you can phone or email him. Best wishes with your search. Bryan

Hello, I am a fan of Goldtone. They have a large range at afforable prices. Also Recording King.
I own a Goldtone OB250+ at $1400US and it rocks. One of there best banjos. The other models are priced from around $400US up. See if you can import from the states, it might be cheaper than the UK. Check the classifieds on this site if importing is an option.

Just noticed the goldstar banjo on Hatfield banjo site is $900US
With your exchange rate in your favour you should be able to get it for a steal even if you import it.
Good luck.
