Fults 1934 Parallel Tailpiece Hy Karumba MAMA!

Posted by randyblair on Friday, January 25, 2008

Well I sold my beloved Lotus Banjer and bought a fults tailpiece for the old 100...I thought it sounded good before but holy freeholies she sounds great now!  This tailpiece evened out all of the notes.  As I move it up it adds more overtones and as I move it down towards the head it tightens the sound and reduces some of the overtones...so I just got it to the place where the notes are nice and loud and clear and don't wash each other out.  What a great tailpiece!!!  I don't think I can do another thing to make this banjo sound any better except try some different strings...but I think I will just play it tons and enjoy the great sound for a looonnnnnggg time!  It sure is great taking these banjo steps...now back to that John Hardy tune!

Right on!!! I've had my eye on them Fult's...one of these days (I had one on my Sierra and loved it). You know that since the Lotus is gone...you gotta rewrite your Bio!!! Hey, I love the black head on your 100!

Or is that a clear head...just looks black in the pictures?

Yep it's a clear head...a black one would look pretty sharp...will keep it in mind for the next head change.  By the way, the fults made my banjo louder too which is a good thing cosidering the rolled brass tone ring I have.  Now it is as loud as most banjos out there.  I couldn't be happier with the sound...it has that bottom end thwack and twang that I hear on Earl's recordings...this banjo will definitely keep me pickin and grinnin for a long time (God willing of course)!
