Friday night, October 20, 2006, was rainy and cold in central NY. But that didn't stop nearly 400 people from venturing out to help the Delaney Brothers celebrate 25 years in the bluegrass music business.
And what a warm, supportive crowd it was! Brothers Ray and John took the stage to thunderous applause and a standing ovation before one note was ever sung or played. It's crowds like this that make me thrilled to be part of the bluegrass community, even if only as "Nick's Mom". Bluegrass fans are just so great.
The evening was a reunion concert, with past and present band members taking the stage in a chronological "walk down memory lane". Each band configuration through the years performed a few songs, and there were plenty of laughs and merriment along the way. Behind the band was a slideshow of photographs spanning the years. It was really neat to see the photos of all the band members when they were still young whippersnappers. :)
The evening was videotaped, and I'm really looking forward to the DVD they are having made of the show. I was sent a rough mix of one of the songs (which happens to feature Nick on banjo) and if anyone wants to hear it, let me know. Yeah, I'm a proud mom. Sue me. LOL
If anyone is interested in more information about the band, you can find the Delaney Brothers web link on our homepage here at the hangout.
Thanks for letting me ramble. :) I'm just really excited after hearing the audio clip!
