using a banjo pick up

Posted by livio on Sunday, November 18, 2007

I recently bought a Mc Intyre pick up for my open back Vega Tubaphone Banjo, while I'm very aware of the fact that most banjo pickers don't like pickups on their banjos, I think there are circumstances where having a pick up might come handy; that's not the issue though, the fact is that while the pick up sound is really  good,  the is a huss coming from ( I believe)  a ground problem, in fact if I'm touching the spot where the jack cable insert in, the problem is temporarly solved; I would like to know some hints on how to overcome this problem.

Hi Livio, The pickup needs to be earthed. It's usually a case of attaching a wire from the pickup to a significant metal part of the banjo, but I'm not to be trusted when it comes to electrical matters, so ask an electrical expert before doing anything, Hope this helps, JJ
