Oct. 8, 2007: Lesson 2

Posted by BadMojo on Tuesday, October 9, 2007

Well I did pretty good on my music theory and I was told my rolls were good. I'm having the craziest time trying to keep my fingers close to the strings. If you watched me pick you would think my fingers were trying to leave my hands. So I got a little chastised on that can't complain it was an honest observation. I got some chords this week and more theory. I think my instructor got a little worried. I glazed over about 20 mins into the theory as he was explaining chord composition and note phrasing. I'm still trying to digest all of that. If I knew music was math I would have thought twice about this -- LOL. I'm just going to have to crack down and make my brain get in there. My little finger is on strike. He no likey the chords and he is letting me know it. I'll break him down though. It's not like he has any place he could go. Well that is it I have homework to get to. Thanks for reading once again about the musically challenged.

Mike:
Listen to more bluegrass,  especially banjo instrumentals,  like Jim Mills,  or Earl,  or your favorite picker.  I almost flunked math in school,  but aced music theory.

Mike- I am not very good, but then I have to look back and see where I was 10 months ago -- just trying to learn a roll. It is fun, enjoy the process and hang in there ... the frustrating times are more than offset by the breakthroughs.
