Has anyone on this forum every picked John Hickmans banjo?
I did back in the 80's and it was smooth as silk with a very mellow tone.
What I found fascinating is that my Stelling was not as smooth to pick as his Gibson.
I picked faster and cleaner with much less effort. Have picked other Gibsons but not near as smooth as his.
I offered him a good price for his banjo which of course he refused but I also asked him why his was so
much easier on the fingers for fretting and pull-offs compared to my Stelling.
His answer was that the neck was shortened by 1/8th of an inch making it easier to play all around.
Has anyone else heard such a thing on shortening the neck for this reason?
Sounds bogus to me but I cant deny that his banjo was a dream on the fingers and playability.
