Not sure this counts as a blog. Just a little about my journey I guess.
Never played an instrument before. My parents tried to get me interested in guitar lessons when I was like in 4th grade or so, but couldn't get interested. Had piano lessons for maybe 6 months, and my mom tried to teach me accordion. Never could get into any of it.
But I've been listening to some bluegrass music lately, and got hooked on The Dead South and Mean Mary a couple years ago. Thought I would try to learn banjo.
So, on May 11 2022, I got my first banjo. A cheap $150 banjo by Ashthorpe, just enough to get me started. I started learning with Eli Gilbert and his 30 days to learn banjo series. Got me started enough to be interested in more.
I can now play his arrangements of Boil That Cabbage Down, Cripple Creek, and Cumberland Gap, and I am learning Will The Circle Be Unbroken. Along with a few other songs here and there, like Worried Man Blues and Red River Valley.
I'm not really fast yet, I think I can play Boil That Cabbage Down at maybe around 120bpm, but other stuff is still slower.
It's been fun and I've learned a lot about playing banjo, and looking forward to learning more.

Welcome. Glad you're having fun.
Keeping it fun is the #1 in learning an instrument. As you listen to more bluegrass, your ears will become more nuanced and you'll start hearing parts of the banjo tunes that haven't noticed before.
Glad to have you on BHO.
