I have an older 5 string WA Cole banjo stamped Boston MA. The only other number is stamped in to the dowel stick is 482. It has 18 frets with some diamond mother of pearl in lays

You'll get more answers if you ask in the collector's forum and add lots of pictures.
Forums are located on the left hand side of the page. Under forums, click browse forums, scroll to appropriate forum and click on it. Then in upper left hand side of page click on new New Topic. Give your topic a subject, ask your question(s), add picture (more on that below) and click on post reply.
To add photos, either go to your home page and click on media and then follow easy instructions to upload or scroll to the bottom of the forum page you're fixing to post and under attachments, again, follow easy instructions to upload photos. After photos are uploaded, then all you have to do is click on the photo (under the attachments). You can preview your text and photos by clicking on preview. If all is correct, then click on post reply.
