The Fiddle and the Banjo: RUNA with Mary Z Cox

Saturday, February 8th at 8 pm (Lobby opens at 7 pm)

Celebrating its 10-Year Anniversary as a band, multi-award-winning, Celtic-American Roots music “super group”, RUNA, continues to push the boundaries of Irish folk music into the Americana and roots music formats. Two-time Florida & NC Banjo Champion & recording artist, Mary Z. Cox, returns to the Monticello Opera House bringing traditional & original mountain music on her banjos and of course a bit of Celtic for this world music evening. (Her music has been played multiple times on NPR’s Thistle & Shamrock.) And there’s more—including February birthday & Valentine’s Day fun with rumors of chocolate cake.

Mary Z. Cox, has recorded 11 CDs, plays concerts & festivals, gives workshops, and authors banjo & mountain dulcimer books. Her music’s been played on National Public Radio, Pandora, iTunes, Spotify, and traditional radio stations across the US & the BBC. Her music is on several movie soundtracks in Canada & the US. She’s won championships, taught, and played banjo and mountain dulcimer at venues across country including the Earl Scruggs Center in Shelby, NC, the John C. Campbell Folk School, Cal Tech, the Priceless Festival in California, the Monticello Opera House, Uncle Dave Macon Days, and the Florida Folk Festival.

Many folks know Mary Z for her “Good Morning Banjo” videos on Face Book & YouTube where she posts impromptu banjo & mountain dulcimer videos from unexpected places in the United States and around the globe. Others know her from the 2016 and 2017 Banjo Babes Calendar & compilation CD.

Tickets are $27 (discounts and upgrades are available) and may be purchased by clicking the ticket below or calling our office at 850-997-4242. Tickets will also be available for purchase at the door the night of the performance.

A full bar with beer, wine and cocktails accepting cash or credit card will be available.
