Updated Goals

Short Term goals:

Rebuild my repertoire from scratch to be played perfectly with no mistakes, and bring up to medium pace still with no mistakes.

Medium Term:

Get relevant tunes in my repetoire up to a speed where I can play along with Josh Turknetts Old Time Jam Machine.

Longer Medium Term goals:

Learn to sing along with my playing.......
I have a number of tunes I can do this with:
a. Angeline the baker
b. Arkansas Traveller.
c. Fortune.
d. Soldiers Joy.
e. Old Joe Clark.
f. June Apple.
g. Cluck Old Hen.
h. Shady Grove.
i. Little Maggie.
j. Roustabout.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To achieve the above goals I am slowing right down aiming for clearness/clarity of notes and zero mistakes in all my tunes prior to building the speed back up whilst maintaining zero mistakes.  Once my tunes are perfect at medium pace then I will try and bring in singing.

In other words, a dedicated attempt at practice slow to play fast...
[I have a feeling that poor practice and allowance of mistakes is what has made it so difficult to video myself in the past.]

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Longer Term goals

As well as learning new tunes from tab, add to my repertoire by extracting melodies either from others tabs or by ear and building my own versions of further tunes as espoused by Jack Beuthin and Josh Turknett.

EDIT - Having found that the backing tracks in the Old Time Jam Machine are not as fast as initially thought, my medium goal and longer medium term goals have been swapped round.  The singing is going to take a fair bit longer than the upping to jam [otj] speed.

Andy, I really admire the way you set goals and diligently work to meet those goals. I always seem to get sidetracked, especially when learning a new tune. Keep picking.

Definitely noticing mistakes more now I have slowed down. (Which is good as fixing my mistakes is the whole point of this exercise.) Using a metronome now to stop me speeding up inadvertantly and had to slow it down even from the initial (I thought easy) setting I had it on.

Getting some pinkie tiredness from 'Over the Waterfall' and 'West Fork Girls', but some of that is likely because I haven't played pinkie heavy tunes for months. So it will take a bit of rebuilding.
