sorry I have been away I was a bit forlorn and low that I wasn't making as much progress playing banjo as some other people. We also renovated the bathrooms and that took up a lot of time. My partner has been very sick. So much happened. I didn't practise as much as I was feeling discouraged, which of course, is not the way to go.
Thanks for your messages.
I will do this quick blog this morning, and I am going away for the weekend but I will be back on Sunday night.
So I was playing back up chords during my lesson yesterday for my banjo teacher, which was a blast! I did it all the way through sometimes without any mistakes! I haven't managed that before, so that is a big step forward for me.

Kate, It's so good to hear from you again. I'm glad you had a good lesson, and I understand the discouraging feelings you've had. I have them all the time. I don't know if they're normal for everyone, but they're normal for me and perhaps for you, too. I'm pretty sure that practice leads to better as surely day succeeds night, so we just need to keep practicing even when we're discouraged (I'm saying this more to myself than I am to you). Congrats on the step forward in your lesson!

Welcome back Kate. You've been missed....
Don't make the mistake of comparing yourself to others (not making same progress comment). It's impossible as you only see the surface and not the background (especially on internet).
Just play for yourself, and your own self improvement.

Kate - Good to hear you're still with us! Andy and Wayne covered the encouragement pretty good. We all learn at different paces
If you're playing the backup in Bluegrass style (never know), take a look at the post I did - download the three TABs he did on Bluegrass backup. They are more or less progressive, but if you can learn these, you have a super start at backup.
So, otherwise - just keep at it. One day you'll have a wow! moment.
Have fun on your trip.

Kate, glad your back. I'm happy you had a good lesson. Keep picking, we all go through slumps sometimes.
