UPDATE: the winners of this challenge have been announced! See them here >
Back by popular demand, the monthly "Banjo Challenge" series is being revived to encourage musicianship and participation in the worldwide banjo community.
Our first challenge, for the month of November, is simple: play a Christmas tune on the banjo. Any tune will do! Instrumental, or with singing. Solo, or accompanied by others.
Your peers are your judges, so think outside the box when it comes to ideas for getting votes!
You may submit your video any time between November 1-30. Judging of entries will occur between December 1-15th--all members will be able to judge all entries, and the most highly-rated will win!

Too bad this contest excludes MP3s. An MP3 version could make a nice addition too.

Yeah--the problem with MP3's are twofold: first, it's easier to cheat with an MP3, and second, it's hard for MP3s to compete with videos since the mediums are so different.

Can you lay out again why pros are excluded? Not saying you're wrong, but it's nice to be a bit more inclusive at Christmas time.

You need a link on the main page to go to the new entries.

"(A professional is defined as anyone who has or is currently earning 50% or more of their income through banjo playing.)"
That should permit 99 and 44/100% of all banjo players.

Glad to see this come back. I like the idea of having the prize simply be bragging rights. I also wonder about limiting professionals. Can there be more than one category? In any case this is an awesome idea.

Seems like this should be the December challenge.

Probably for the same reason most amateur golfers wouldn't have much fun going up against a touring pro golfer? Not much of a match there.
Besides, the pros get to shine all year long. I think it's nice that the hobbyists get a chance to show their stuff with other hobbyists, without a touring pro "showing them how it's done."

Maybe it's just me, but it isn't clear based on the 5 boxes I see under the videos on how to rate them. All the boxes look the same - I.E. shows just a box with an x in it. Not sure which box is 1 and which is 5?
