Make no mistake, I've heard plenty of tales of woe about banjo necks being broken as a result of being stored on a stand instead of in a banjo case. At the very same time I like having easy access to my banjos and I also enjoy simply gazing at them. To me, banjo are works of art that are meant to be enjoyed even when they are not being played. Thus keeping my banjos out in the light of day is very important to me however keeping my banjos safe is also very important to me.
We don't have any children living at home with us, we do not have any pets and while it is very small I am fortunate to have a spare room, which I call the “bat Cave”, for my personal use. My wife often comments, sometimes loudly, on how the “Bat Cave” and my banjos keep me out of her hair so perhaps she is the lucky one?
Anywho, if we had small children and/or pets living with us I doubt that I'd do this. Accidents can and will sometimes happen. At the very same time, however, I know that I may or may not be of this world tomorrow so I'm willing to shoulder the risk.
I purchased a Hercules GS523B Three-Instrument Guitar Rack for my banjos. This puppy rocks! My banjos are happy as a beaver in a lumber yard when they are in it and they are, IMO, nearly as safe as they would be in their cases.
The Hercules GS523B Three-Instrument Guitar Rack is substantial, well-designed and very stable. There is no assembly. As delivered it will hold 3 banjos (or guitars) and it is expandable. I have a forth banjo on the way so I ordered the Hercules HA205 Expansion Yoke today and when it arrives and after I install it my rack will support four banjos. A five instrument version (GS525B) is also available and it too can be expanded.
The Hercules GS523B Three-Instrument Guitar Rack is not cheap. However if want to keep your banjos out of their cases while not having to worry a whole lot about knocking them over he Hercules GS523B Three-Instrument Guitar Rack is certainly worth the investment.
Did I forget to mention that the Hercules GS523B Three-Instrument Guitar Rack saves a bunch of floor space when compared to the average single instrument stand? Made a huge difference in the "Bat Cave". The Hercules Rack replaced two Hamilton Hanging Guitar stands and it fits nicely up against the wall in a corner of the "Bat Cave". The end result is I have more room, less clutter and my banjos are out of the way but easy to get at.
The only complaint I have is that the manufacture insists on calling it a guitar rack instead of a banjo rack. Go figure...
I put some pictures in my BHO Photo Album. Click here to see them.
For the record: I purchased my Hercules GS523B Three-Instrument Guitar Rack retail. The opinions expressed in this review are my own. My favorite food is chopped liver. I have received psychiatric care.

I make a mean chopped liver, but it has never occurred to me to store the instruments SIDEWAYS!!! Saves space, obviously, and seems to be safer all round. Congrats on the purchase.

Thank you. Two days in and I'm happier with it now than when I got it. Chopped liver rocks!
