Hi all,
In response to Eric's request for positive banjo builder stories, here's mine. http://www.cranebanjos.com/2015/06/banjo-010.html I play in a band with Jeff Crane, so I've heard about each of his banjos as they were born, as it were. As each one is ready to pass along to the new owner, Jeff brings it along to the gig and gives it a good test drive. Having seen his artistry, I had to have one of my own. I was looking for something lighter than my Ramsey Dobson style. I was ready to try a skin head. I wanted a fretless feel, but I'm still new enough that I wanted some indication of where the note would be, so Jeff did a fine job making my fingerboard with flush frets. My Crane #10 is just what I wanted. Have a look at his web page description and you'll see the fine details and the beautiful artistry in the wood work. Have a listen to the video of Crane #10 on that webpage, and see/hear the other banjos that have come from Crane Banjos as well.
