Nashville Contradance

I think playing for a large dance might be the most fun kind of gig ever.  There is so much energy in the room it is amazing. I don't get the opportunity often, but I never miss the chance to play when it is offered.

Last night was a BLAST with these fantastic musicians: Brian Christanson (fiddle), Casey Campbell (mandolin), Russ Barenberg (guitar), Tyler Andall (fiddle), Todd Cooke (bass), and Susan Kevra (calling).

The highlight of the evening (for me) was when Brian called to play my tune Firefly (from ~HOT~ Biscuit Jam). What fun it was to hear this band playing my tune and see the dancers respond.

I know you had a great time, John. I love playing for the weekly contra dances here in Louisville, though the caliber of our musicians is significantly lower than you and your band mates. But the dancers don't mind. They are so appreciative of the live music, and we musicians love the groove that we get into.

By the way, David Prat and I enjoyed playing your tune Wesley briefly when he was in Louisville for our jam.

David - your dance in Louisville is a great one. The band you play with is fantastic. I had lots of fun when you all let me sit in there too.

Nashville is an amazing town. What a thrill it is to play with well-known pros like Russ, Brian & Todd ... and the young guys are incredible too (I guess they are all younger than me). Casey is an awesome mandolinist. Tyler is a very talented multi-instrumentalist (winner of Uncle Dave Macon Days Nation Championship Old Time Banjo 2013).

John, will there be a contra dance at "Breakin' Up Winter" in March? We are planning to be there for that week-end (for the first time).

I am not sure. I don't stay at Breaking Up Winter for the whole weekend. I have only attended a few jam sessions and workshops. Sorry.

Cottonmouth, as you may know, there was a contra dance this year on Saturday night. I think they have had one regularly in recent years, so I think the chances are good there will be a dance at the 104 BUW.
