"Conversations with Banjo Historians" is now online!

Posted by schlange on Wednesday, March 13, 2013

As you may know, the Banjo Hangout has partnered with the amazing Craig Evans to deliver his "Conversations with North American Banjo Builders" series of DVDs to the masses. I'm pleased to announce that as of today, the third and final volume, "Conversations with Banjo Historians" is available for purchase on the BHO!

Unlike the first two volumes, which focused on banjo builders, this volume focuses on banjo historians and collectors. This fascinating series of programs features tours of large private collections, discussions of yet-to-be-written banjo history and interviews with “living history” performers and teachers.

Ethnomusicologist Greg Adams discusses the 62 west African plucked lutes that contribute to today’s banjo. And vetted banjo researcher Bob Winans comments on what we have yet to learn.

Other interviews include Dr. Laurent Dubois. CeCe Conway, Bob Carlin, Taj Mahal, Adam Hurt, Dwight Diller, Kevin Fore and Ulf Jagfors. Each interview is 20+ minutes long.

Volume 3 also includes a personal tours of Jim Bollman’s and Peter Szego’s extraordinary banjo collections.

Note: each "volume" is actually a 3-DVD set, so there's a lot of great content here!

I purchased the first 2 volumes and couldn't stop watching them until I had finished both of them.... loads of information and I learned a lot about banjo vendors that I have met over the years at IBMA....really looking forward to the 3rd edition...

Watched Craig's interview with Dwight Diller yesterday over lunch. Very cool to hear from the man's heart about his history, connection, and approach to the music.
