Posted by KenBirmingham on Tuesday, February 5, 2013

Hi Banjo Buddies out there,

I know this will sound like a stupid question but i need to know when using a metronome do i play the note on the banjo between the beat on the metronome or at the same time.

You can play it on the beat or you can play one on the beat and one between the beat. It's according to how you want to count it.
If you're in 4/4 time and are playing 8th notes, you'd count 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 & -- and the 1, 2, 3, 4 would be on the beat, the &'s would be between the beats. If you're playing quarter notes, you would play one note on each beat.

When first learning a T I T M roll, the T will be on the click and the I and M will be in between.
