Well, I just got back from the Birchmere in Arlington, VA. What a wonderful Christmas present! My wife arranged tickets, hotel, etc to go see the NY Banjo Summit. I traveled on a whirlwind schedule from Michigan and back.
All I can say is "wow"; it was so worth it.
Where in the world can you see Bela Fleck, Tony Trischka, Noam Pikelny, Eric Weissberg, Bill Keith and Richie Stearns all in one place at the same time?
It was awesome to hear some great old tunes as well as watch Noam and Bela go off into that world that no one really understands, except them. They all hung around after the show and I had a chance to say hi and catch some autographs for my playbill.
The backing group was very good and the show was well put together. Also got the chance to sing happy birthday with the crowd to Tony - Happy 64th! Of course Bela played a super inspiring version of the Beatles, "When I'm 64".
What a great opportunity and a wonderful day to be a banjo fan and a picker wannabe!
