On this first day of 2013, I want to let all my BHO friends know about my plans for the coming year.
For the past few years I've run the Banjo (and other) Hangouts in my spare time, upgrading them as time and money allow. I love running the Hangouts, but there never seems to be enough time in the day to do everything I want to do with them, on top of the other things I want to do (earn a living, be a good husband and father, minister to others, play music, etc.)
I've spent most of my work time (~30-35 hours/week) these past several years running my website development company that I started 15 years ago, BitSculptor. The challenge is that, once I pay my employees and other costs, this business hasn't been very profitable for me for the past several years. Sure, I make money at it: but not enough money to justify the time put in.
Things have been this way for a few years now. But things are going to change dramatically in the next few months!
I'm now in a transition period, moving myself out of the day to day running of BitSculptor so I can concentrate more fully on the Hangouts and other side pursuits (but mostly the Hangouts!) Within 3-6 months I'll be reducing my BitSculptor work time to ~5 hours/week, and will devote a significant portion of my time (20-30 hours/week) to improving the Hangout sites.
The future is bright here at the Banjo Hangout. I've always had lots of ideas for improvements to our community, but haven't had the time to make them happen. That is going to change now--and that's a huge change for me! I'm very excited about what the future holds for myself, my family, and the Hangouts. I hope you'll be along for the ride!
Best wishes to everyone for a great 2013. I hope you and yours have some exciting things to look forward to this year.

Having too many 'iron's in the fire' has been an issue for me too Eric, so I know what thats like. Sometimes we work way too hard for too little monetary returns. Here's hoping your new schedule will help you to escape the grind. Thanks for the BHO and we all look forward to seeing what exciting changes are in store Happy New Year!

Great news Eric. I have been a supporter for a few years now and there are few things I enjoy more than meeting other members, pickin and visiting with them and progressing from everything they share with me. You have a tough job here and I am sure you will accomplish whatever you set your mind to. Good luck and I look forward to hearing more about your upcoming changes and additions to the site.

I love it. I hope it works for you, but just to let you know... I'm not buying any BHO Tuxedo, well....maybe if Rich designs it! Though with my triangle sales, I can still throw a few bucks your way,eh.
Can't wait to hear more. Brad

Thanks Eric! This is a great site and I have learned a TON here. I have some friends that play other instruments but they do not have a resource as good as the BHO for their instruments. I am constantly referring them to the BHO for music & backing tracks. Thanks for all you do here!

Eric..Great you do it that way. - Exiting to see what news will happen. - In a "poor 5 strings banjoland" as Denmark, I`m really glad to visite BHO. The site gives me a lot of inspiration, and "talking" with people, all over the world, with the same interess....Banjo Playing. - Good Luck. A fantastic work you do. I`m with you...and the 75000 Banjo players.

Good for you Eric! This is an excellent site for banjo fanatics and I look forward to see what you have in store for the future! I'm not a tech guy by any stretch of the imagination, but it would be cool to be able to pick with folks on-line (Facetime, Skype kind of deal). Even better if we good jam with more than one member. Just a thought. Also, easy access to back up tracks would be awesome!!

Great news for banjo lovers, Eric. Especially those of us outside of the USA. BHO rocks! Where else can we newbies, intermediate & advanced players get the help/advice/feedback/friendship/etc we need. Looking forward to seeing how BHO develops in 2013. All the best - Steve

SO COOL. Congrats Eric! You should be extremely proud of this accomplishment. That is enough of us to form a nice mid-size city.

Very exciting Eric. You have created an amazing community here. I hope that many people join the union, and that this becomes a worthwhile venture for you. I hope one day that the chat room will allow us to jam together, and hopefully have a bit better Mac support. Good luck with it all.
