I'm always saddened by the steady stream of news of gun violence and senseless killing in America. Yesterday I was more deeply saddened than usual when I learned that one of the victims of the senseless Clackamas Mall shooting Tuesday here in Portland, Oregon, was a friend of mine, Cindy Yuille. I wasn't a real close friend of Cindy's, but close enough to have attended her wedding reception a few years ago. Cindy was a hospice nurse, a wife, a mother, and a beautiful person. I was still trying to absorb the news of Cindy's death this morning when I heard the news of the elementary school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. Now I'm simply stunned and heart broken. I'm sure I can speak for the whole country when I say my thoughts and prayers are with Newtown right now.
