Dueling banjos

Posted by Bill500000 on Tuesday, October 23, 2012

Well, I found that dueling banjos is the one everyone wants to me to play, I get the impression that a lot of banjo players sort of shun the tune, but I don't understand why, I think it's great and it was the tune that made me want to get a banjo.  So I learned the basic notes and have posted how far it's got, ... still working on it, and I still like the tune!

Its one of best crowd pleaser banjo tunes around .. If you can, learn the sound track version from the movie Deliverance. Unless you pick with the same folks all the time, the problem most encoutered is getting the guitar player to do it right. Most will know enough to get the song started because all the slow stuff is so easy to do, then when its time to get moving you get left holding the bag. Also in a lot of cases people try to play it way too fast. It actually sounds better at just a moderate speed like the sound track. Good luck with it, its a great song.

Hi Gary, I've got a basic version sorted out to get by with, and I think your're right, it does sound better played slower, although I've asked a few people what they think and some like the faster version, got to find that midway point I think now and work on the tune a bit more! Thanks for the info and checking out the topic!

Yeah the songs moves along at a good pace , just not as fast you hear people try to pick most of the time . Good luck with it and keep us up on the progress. If you listen close to the sound track you will also hear a lot of detail stuff the guitar adds to the song. I've never been much on trying to pick a song exactly the way I heard it, but songs like Dueling Banjo's an Foggy Mountain Breakdown deserve a good try at it.
