I recently picked up an old beater Longneck, and it needed a new tuner so I did some searching. Here in Japan, Gotoh is of course the most common brand but I found one that is marginally cheaper and almost as common- SCUD. Since I had some Rakuten points saved up, and Rakuten sellers only had SCUD I ordered one.
Oddly, when it arrived, although the package clearly said SCUD and it had its own model number (p-142), the tuner itself clearly says "GOTOH." It also perfectly matches the pictures of Gotoh tuners I see online, and all of the little details of machining and workmanship point toward a high-end product...so apparently SCUD just repackages Gotoh products and sells them through discount retailers? Or is SCUD a Gotoh sub-name?
Whatever the case, I got a good deal on a good tuner!
