So this is very Portland. There's this newish bicycle shop on NE 42nd Ave right across the street from the Moon & Sixpence, which is where Foghorn has been playing in the corner every Sunday night for years. But this bicycle shop, Velo Cult, is also a pub. And they are now hosting The Gold Diggers every other Tuesday night, which is a new old time band featuring BHO member Isaac Enloe on banjo and bicycle frame builder Travis Cooper on fiddle. I popped in tonight for the first time to check it out and loved the place right away. Ran into Eric and Linnea from Flat Rock Stringband. After a while Flat Rock banjo player Brooks showed up. We got to talking surfing, 'cause Brooks just bought a new (used) 9' board. I used to surf on the Oregon coast with my kids and had a 9' Rueter. So now I'm thinking maybe I should get another board and get back on the water. But surfing aside, The Gold Diggers sounded great and will be a welcome addition to the Portland old time scene. And Foghorn will be playing a CD release party at Velo Cult on Sept 27. Looks like Velo Cult is a welcome addition to the Porltand old time scene as well. And they're hosting The Triplets of Belleville on October 10. How cool is that? :-)
All for now, Scott

What an amazing scene, Scott. And it's great that you get to be in the middle of it.

How amazing is that? Both the consuming passions of my life (five-string banjo playing and all things cycling) in one venue! You're a lucky man.

Love it! Bluegrass bike pub - you may have given me an idea there... :)
