Some pleasant progress.

Posted by EasternSmooth on Saturday, September 15, 2012

I've been playing my Goodtime for about 5 months now. I started with videos and tabbed lessons on the web, and then I bought a book of fiddle tunes for the banjo and used them to get some of the patterns in my head. But then I figured, it would probably be best to try something a little more focused, so I bought Ken Perlman's Clawhammer a banjo book a couple of weeks ago. I've made it up to the first tune, "When the Saints Come Marching In" and tonight I repan though it about 30 times, recording each time. Ging back and listening to the recordings, I could actually hear the progress, the reduction in missed notes or uneven beats, and by the end of the night I could actually play some recognizable music. Huzzah!
