Wow what a day yesterday.....my wife and I went to have our 21 week anatomical ultrasound done with the baby. Everything looks great and the baby is healthy and active...WE ARE HAVING A LITTLE BOY!!!!!!! My wife and I are sooo excited....what a blessing this truly is for us!!
After we came home with great elation and I called friends and family to tell them and share the news..I suddenly learned that Banjo great Earl Scruggs had died!! It was such a bittersweet ending to a day filled with soo much emotion. Earl was a follower of Jesus and a brother..he lived Gods word daily...so he has moved on to the next realm and is with God basking in the presence of our maker....so its not sadness per say. We must reflect on this I think: "Before there is new life, there is a death of something" Before a tree grows, a tiny seed must fall to the earth and die, and then it sprouts roots and grows" Earl was a seed planted in the life of many, a musical father and mentor that poured of himself into a whole generation....new generation of banjo pickers. And now the torch has been passed and a new generation of banjo pickers is arising!!! Rest brother Earl....like Stonewall Jackson said in the movie "Gods and Generals" "I will cross over the great river and rest under the shade of the trees" Rest brother Earl and thank you for what you have done for the music and for the beloved banjo....enjoy the peace that comes with your newfound life...your legacy will live on for generations to come!!

Eric: Congratulations on it being a boy! I have two daughters - wanted a son, didn't even get a tom boy!
Your words about Earl are precious. Thanks. He has indeed left an enormous legacy.

Congratulation to you and your wife...now you know, it`ll be a son. Nice/fantastic... - We have two daughters...that`s nice too. As you know we live on the country side. They learned to help with the animals....at that time, when they were small, we have pigs - sheeps - 2 horses ...hens..(Now we only have pigeons - dog and cat) They also learned to use tools and so on. So I have never missed, to have a boy....But now we have 6 grandchildren...3 boys and 3 girls, from 0 to 10 years. -
PS: Wayne....I hope you`r daughters will let your wishes come true, and "give you" a son.
Remember what the " Peanuts" say when they are discussion the "world situation" about new born babyes: Thomas say:" The way I see it, as soon as a baby is born. He should be issued a Banjo. "
About Earl. I agree with you. - I`m glad I have DVD`s with him playing.

I thought about the name "Earl" for our little boy...but yah know...it just doesnt sound right...especially here in Argentina..they would have a hard time with it. We are trying to name him a nae that sounds similar in spanish as it does in English LOL!
