Ok we put the rat trap out again last night...this time we put the trap on the floor by the door of the closet. We dont have peanut butter here in Argentina so my wife put a piece of meat on their and we dosed it with tuna fish juice/water it smelled pretty strong. Yesterday when my wife opened the door, she said she saw the rat for the first time. I think its a roof rat...she said it was brown and about 7 inches long or so head to rump. Anyways last night was very VERY quiet in there..no chewing or gnawing. So I opened the door this morning...dont laugh ...but laying directly across the trap was one of my wifes gray socks...just laying directly across as if it was testing it to see if it would close or maybe it felt safer with the sock over top of it. Or maybe it was just saying to me HAHA stupid humans!! To make matters worse, it looks like it may have gotten inside the spare dresser we have in there...unbelievable!! I took that closet apart the other day and didnt see it anywhere...how do they hide so well. Really we have no idea what to do now :(

Hi they are very smart he knows it is a trap from before because he set it off if i am correct,it will most likely leave the house during the day or he has found a good place to nap in the house, you may have to put sticky paper around trap now that he knows how to set it off,not my way of killing one ,but pretty soon you are going to have more than one.Ron

Buy a yorkshire terrior with a bad attitude. Heck, that is what those dogs were meant to do, before they became a show breed. Our yorkie was a terror to mice anyway.

A friend here in Argentina told us to throw a bucket of hot water with bleach or soap that it stuns them and makes the dizzy...and then you can kill them. Yeah it seems like his rat has figured out that "Trap = "I might die" the sock thing was weird...
Ron - This rat is a loner...it climbed in through the back window that we left open at night. In tyhe 4 years we have been here we have never had a rat problem ever. We left the back window open for a while the other day but it was still there at night. We keep thinking it "must" be starving it hasnt eaten and drunk anything for days obviously. Tonight I ma going to try the trap thing again with a diff trap and bait..and I am going to set it in the hallway...that way it will have to leave the closet and maybe we can trap in the hallway.

Rats are pretty smart, they instictly know when they go along their run if anything is different from their previous visit, so you may get a few days of nothing happening, do not disturb anything and eventually the rat will show itself and maybe get caught...

If you have "live traps" in Argentina, set one in the hall with some tasty treats. Once he's in...you got 'im. Then take the trap to the nearest creek and drown the little $#@#$%...LOL

Surrender, and make a pet out of him. He'll leave the minute you dress him in goofy animal clothes, like people do for their poodles!

Ok its 12:38 this time an extra snap trap has been baited. I used gloves so I wouldnt get my hands on it. My wife and I put a piece of smelly summer sausage on the trigger and as an added deadly treat, underneath we smeared a litle bit of "Dulce de Leche" its kinda like an oozy thick caramel sauce..kinda like butterscoth syrup. What the heck its lik fishin aint it...gotta try different bait until the thing bites. This time the trap is set correctly. The hallway is sealed off and the back closet has been cracked open...see what happens.
