I've been a member here for just over a year, and I thought at some point I should buy a banjo. It's finally happening, and I can't wait. I'm getting an old time fretless banjo from John Peterson. He's been very helpful and easy to work with. He's providing updates as he builds it, so I thought I'd post the progress as it happens.
I had seen one of his banjos with a highly figured wood for the fingerboard, and I liked that. so I asked John about the availability of such wood. He found a cool piece of Cherry that fit the bill, and sent be a photo of the selected piece, which I posted in my photos. It's exactly what I had in mind.
More to come...

Congratulations Tom! It will be interesting to follow the crafting process along. Nothing like a new banjer to motivate ya!

I haven't seen mine yet in person, but I feel like I have because he sent me email photo updates every 2 days, on average. I just went back to my email to check the timeline, and the email from PayPal was dated 2/9, and the email from John saying the banjo had shipped was dated 2/17. Eight days! I am going on vacation on the 24th, and it should arrive here on the 23rd.
