My kids finally got me back. I do my banjo practice when they are in bed. I try to be quiet...most nights.
This morning, I woke up to my 2-year-old and my 4-year-old playing my banjo. Luckily, they couldn't figure out how to get it out of the stand. Unluckily, they did figure out how to turn the tuning keys. And, my banjo sits right next to my bed. For them to get that far without me waking up, you know I was sleeping soundly.
Loudly-played, off-tune banjo wakes you up at 6 AM in a way no one should have to endure. Am I truly putting my children through this every night? I really am a lousy mom.
I was late to work today, but after I stopped shaking, we had fun playing with the picks and playing some pretty sad renditions of whatever my daughter could come up with. All in all, a fun morning.
I'll get them back, though. I don't have a good tuner. I just have the app on my iphone that makes the sound of the notes. So, I'll be loudly tuning my banjo for about an hour after the kids go to bed tonight. Muh-ha-ha.

I used to put my kids in front of the TV while I practiced -- usually worked pretty well, they were in the den and I was in the bedroom and we didn't get in each other's way.

Thanks. That's pretty much how the thing on my iPhone works. I want to get one of the ones that listens to the sound of your string and turns green when you have it right. I just don't know what to get. I would love to get it as an app on my iphone, but I don't know if what they have is worth the price. Any thoughts?

Just ordered the black one from amazon. It's on back order. Was going to switch to the red one, but the friend helping me just ordered the black one anyway. So I guess I'll wait. I spent forever tuning tonight, but I only got close, not right on. Sigh. I'll get help Saturday.
