A day in the Life-1/3/2012

Posted by TimDreamer on Tuesday, January 3, 2012

Boy, did I have a full day.  Thank goodness my wife let me sleep in a little bit this morning.  Did some rat killing (running errands, there were no real rats harmed in the day's ventures for those with a squeamish attitude) in the early morning and got back home around 10 am. We then shared a few sausage and cheese kolaches along with a couple (a half dozen) of glazed raised for me and a couple (really only two for her) of cake donuts with chocolate icing for my Honjee.  The coffee that we purchased at the donut shop was very good with breakfast.  Did a few chores around the apartment and then drove over to the grocery store and got the fixin's for a shrimp stir fry for the evening's meal.  Back home, did a few more chores, chopped up veggies and cleaned the shrimp with my Honjee and then waited a while to start cooking in the wok.  Around 5:30 pm Honjee's aunt and uncle showed up to eat with us.  Talk about yummy, that stir fry really hit the spot!!   After our visitors left, cleaned up the kitchen and filled the dishwasher and sat down to practice the 'jo.  A few forward/backwards rolls to warm up and then three times through Banjo in the Hollow and the A part to Cripple Creek.  Finished up with practicing with the fretting of the 9-10 forward/backward roll, the 2-1-2 forward/backward roll and the 4-2 D finish on Banjo in the Hollow.  I got in a good hour practicing tonight.  The crack in my middle finger healed nicely and didn't affect my picking at all thank God.  Now to get some calluses built up on my left hand fingers so that the strings don't hurt so much.... lol.  Luckily I haven't practiced enough to make them bleed, but they sure are sore when I get done.  I just have to slow down and work on my accuracy and let my speed build up over time.  Still trying to get the muscle memory and keeping my pinky planted for my right hand so I can concentrate on my left hand and getting the right frets.  This is alright though, I haven't had my 'jo for a month even and am doing ok, I think.  Now it's time for a little shut eye as I have put Honjee to bed and am going to go join her.  More practicing every day if I can fit it in, those notes stay in my mind even when I'm not playing.  Does that sound crazy?

No it does not sound crazy. You have the banjo addiction, embrace it :)

Keep it slow for now. Speed comes naturally.
