Hey everyone! I'm back!
I did my time and didn't pick the Banjo up for at least 4 weeks. As I work in a school I had pretty much 3 weeks unpaid leave as well, I laid off everything I could.
The result? I'm a little rusty on the Banjer, but the elbow seems to be doing well. Much less of a problem than in previous times. Fingers crossed!
In the meantime I went to a local barn dance, with live musicians, in aid of the local Primary School. Well you could've knocked me down with a feather when they started calling out square dances to Soldiers Joy, Liberty, Sugar in the Gourd and other such Old Time favourites.
The band was excellent and we all had a swell time! Except for...
No Banjo player????? What's that all about?? We had a Bass, a Fiddle, a Geetar and even a Mandolin with a drummer too. But no Banjo? Surely this isn't legal. Surely there are copyright issues around playing Old-time music with no banjo?
I blame myself, anyway. If I'd only taken my banjo like I'd threatened too...
More positives I took from the night were that alcohol and certain people produce the weirdest effects - you think you know someone, and well... ne'er mind! Also, I was surprised at how many of the tunes I could pick out after the first 2 or 3 bars of the fiddler starting up!
So back in the fold am I! And I'm looking forward to learning some of the tunes they played that I didn't know how to - Katy Hill and Leather Britches etc.

Glad you are back to it. I'll bet it feels so good to be making music again. Hope your elbow behaves itself and you can play as much as you like.

Good luck with that elbow, it seems that it's always something. Wrists, knees, back? We just hope it doesn't get in the way of our music. It's tough getting old, but it beats the alternative. LOL
