There is a ton of stuff out there on the net that I found last night. I actually played for about an hour after tuning my banjo.
Speaking of tuning. Anyone actually reading this? If you are, I putchased a chromatic tuner, and clip[ped the thing to my banjo, but I can't get the thing to work. It is frustrating as hell. It seels to work perfectly fine when I unpluf the vibration clip thing and just use the mic on the front of it, but seems to give garbage information through that clip. The manual is all in Japanese, so I can't read it, but there are only 4 buttons, so it can't be that hard (can it?).
That small rant aside, I set up my first lesson today. Jimmy Watanabe, one of the major guys with the local country music scene. He has played live at my pizza shops a few times. He plays the guitar, but offered to teach me the basics of the banjo, and introduce me to a banjo teacher about an hour away.
Now to practice some more.

Hey Chris!
I have one of those tuners, and one thing I learned was to make sure that it is set at 440hz to get the right tones. I found out during I gig, no less, that I was on a different setting than what it was supposed to be on. What brand is it, by the way? I use a Korg. Works well for me, after the setting oops!
"How can one not feel happy, when they hear a banjo play!?"

I figured out the problem with the think. My head wasn't tight enough so it was messing with the vibrations. At least that is what my teacher told me. I haven't been able to test that theory though, as you will see from my next blog entry.
It is set to 440. That was the default setting, so I just left it.
