I think I am chicken fried

Posted by tombrien on Thursday, September 2, 2010

I have jammed with a few others for awhile now, and haven't been any  too nervous to play and sing. I do get a case of the nerves sometimes, but have been able to get past it. I even went out to the neuro re-hab center where my wife works and played and sung a few times. I did pretty good IMHO. I have been signed up on a website called the Michigan Musicians Collective for about 6-8 months now. They list events in and around my area where you can go and sign in and play at a bar or restaraunt open mic venue, or a coffee house. I have gone out once so far. I played with a group called the Thursday Night Jammers. They were a fun group, and I had a good time. I suppose I felt safe there because of the number of people (14 or so). I have yet to go out and play by myself though. Every time I look at an event that I'd like to attend, I come up with some lame excuse at the last minute to not go because I am afraid I will screw up in front of other more talented musicians. I feel confident enough in my abilities, but, I also know I am not perfect. I also get the shakes in my right hand sometimes when I get nervous, and it gets tough to play when that happens. One day soon I hope to get the courage to go on out and play. I would also love to meet many of the people I have seen on the site that DO go out and play. They have begged me to come out and play, so I know that I would be welcome (at least till they hear me play he he).

Have you worked on your chicken song/tune repertoire? These lots of them out there.
