I bought the Geoff Hohwald beginner package about 2 weeks ago, and it has helped quite a bit as far as seeing how it looks to play the tunes I'm learning proper. I also like the jam CD, I tried it out just about a week ago, and I really sucked at keeping up with the tunes even at slower speeds. But I've got better at playing along with it and have worked my way up to 72 bpm on 2 of the tunes. I seem to lose it at 86 bpm, so I'll just keep on practicing at the slower speeds till I feel I have it nailed, then try again for the higher tempos. it's quite a bit like playing with a metronome, but sounds more pleasant.
