Saturday night went to Meadowgreen Park in Clay City, KY to see the Dean Osborn Band and the Moron Brothers. Let me tell you, the Dean Osborn Band is GREAT! They were on fire. http://www.deanosborneband.com/
My sons and his friends went with us - to see a bunch of teenagers from a rock-n-roll band be that entranced by a bluegrass group was really great. At one time they were playing the Clinch Mountain Backstep and broke into Smoke on the Water and my son and his band went wild.
I asked the boys after the concert what they thought - "The musicians are amazing!" - Conversion from Rock to Bluegrass - well, it is a long stretch for this father's dream. But hopefully now they will at least appreciate the music a little more. I tried to explain to them that this music is in their blood (all of the boys in his band have long roots in Kentucky). I remember walking through the snow to the outhouse with my Grandpa and him singing "I followed her footprints in the snow....". And, JD Crowe lives right here in the same town with us - not to mention all the other great bluegrass musicians from around the Lexington area.
So, if you are ever near Clay City on a Saturday night (October through April) - 7 PM at Meadowgreen park - come get a taste of Kentucky Bluegrass. You won't be disappointed - oh, and bring a teenager.
