Banjo set up

Posted by Pepper Laing on Tuesday, February 24, 2009

I was just down in Tennessee playing some shows and taking in the SPBGMAs, and while there I went to Charlie Cushmans house because he did a set up on my banjo. Charlie did an excellent job, he is a real pro, and a really nice guy. He changed the nut, the head, the bridge to a Snuffy Jenkins, and re-did my upper co-ordinator rod because it was put in wrong and binding against the tone ring causing it to not vibrate and ring properly. The banjo sounds and plays sweeter than ever nice job Charlie. Also when he had my banjo all apart found out that I have a pre-war flange in her, this is something I never would have known and is some great news. If you are in the Nashville area certainly try to get a set up done by Charlie, the man entrusted to re-furbish Don renos banjo tha Earl Scruggs traded to Don. Check out charlies web site. I also was given Charlies latest cd a tribute to Fiddlin Paul Warren who played fiddle for Flatts N Scruggs. Pauls son Johnny Warren plays the fiddle on the cd in the style of his father and all the playing is top notch on this new cd.

I once played a late model rb 250 that Charlie had set up.It played like butter. There are many who are good at setup but I doubt there's anyone better.
