I got some rare footage of Courtney Johnson doing a banjo workshop at "The Pickin' Parlor" in Flatwoods, KY November 8th, 1986 with Tom Timberlake on Guitar and Hazel Johnson on Mandolin. The Pickin' Parlor was a small workshop owned by Ted Thompson who worked on instruments and had regular jam sessions up until the mid-90's. He also made mandolins. When I hear stories about all the great pickers who would be there you'd think it was a big place when it was really such a small workspace I don't see how they all fit in there! It must have been wall to wall banjos and guitars. I think it just got to big and he quit having them, but I'd love to hear from anyone who has been there. I also came across an interesting brochure from "The Sullivan & Dudley Talent Agency"

The Classic Lonzo & Oscar

Oscar Sullivan & the Spirit of Bluegrass Country Show

Brings Them Back to the Spotlight Again

The Classic Lonzo & Oscar of the 50’s is being featured on T.V. all around the country with the classic Grand Ole Opry. This exposure has created this demand for Lonzo & Oscar in person today. If you think Lonzo & Oscar was funny in the 50’s you should see them now! And you will in the near future by T.V. You ain’t seen nutten yet.

Oscar Sullivan, a veteran entertainer of T.V., movies, and the recording field, has brought together in the SPIRIT OF BLUEGRASS COUNTRY the best in the business known around the world – Mr. Banjo Courtney Johnson, Dr. Dobro Curtis Burch and director and arranger Tom Timberlake playing the part of Lonzo. A cast of five people, four men and one lady, all playing multiple instruments with beautiful harmony during Bluegrass, Gospel, Old Country along with the classic Lonzo & Oscar.

The “Spirit of Bluegrass Country” is Oscar’s dream come true in show business. See this show and you will know why.

We want to promote Bluegrass Music and bring out Old Country Music that has been asleep in the storerooms of radio stations throughout the country and get it back on the air. People are forced to listen to only new material on radio when they are hungry for the classics. We feel both are good, but don’t discard one for the other and Bluegrass hasn’t, it just hasn’t received the honor we think it deserves.

Our show will be produced from start to finish with the Lonzo & Oscar style harmony. The classic Lonzo & Oscar in costume of the 50’s with plenty of good Bluegrass Music. We are looking forward to seeing you in ’86.

I'd like to know if these shows actually did happen and any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading!
