New Picks

Posted by Russ Wren on Wednesday, January 28, 2009

Even thought I have only been at this banjo thing for about a month, I have to say I was quite pleasantly surprised by a change I have made in my picks.

Up to this point, I have been using plain Dunlop nickel fingerpicks with a plastic Dunlop thumbpick, but I have recently changed to the Showcase 1941 cobalt plated fingerpicks with the Propik metal thumbpick with Delrin tip, and I was amazed at the difference!

The cobalt picks seem much quieter on the strings and the Propik thumbpick (to me at least) is a big improvement over the Dunlop. These new picks encouraged me to spend over 3 hours practicing yesterday, and that's always a good thing!

Where I live the only picks available are the Dunlops and so I have nothing to compare them with. I`m headed to Tennessee soon and can`t wait to get some different brands to try, as many people have said they can make a differance.

Russ picks make all the difference. As you have now found out :) Keep playing around with different ones you may find some you like even more than these. Good luck and keep picking!!!

Pepper,

I live in Europe, and the 1941's and Propiks are not available here (as far as I know). I ordered them from Janet Davis, so you maiht want to give that a try if you're interested.
