Old mate of mine bought a kasuga 5string reso from the 70s on ebay,didnt learn to play it and offered it to me for what he payed(not much).Looked like just another japanese banjo to me but when i started playing it,i was gobsmacked.Really really really good.Bit clunky in the neck,but i like that,few battle scars,just like meself,what a sound! compared it to a brand new gibson thing worth $5000 and it gave it a hiding.
is this a fluke?whoever built this banjo did something right. At my next barbecue for admirable luthiers(usually a bi-annual event)the little japanese bloke in the corner chatting with Al Fairbanks will probably be mr kasuga.
We stopped inviting Sam Stewart because he kept getting tipsy,making bombastic remarks,and picking fights with the Dobson boys.What sort of a middle name is Swaim anyhow? bet he got teased at school and ended up with short blokes syndrome that made him go round looking for trouble.Thats what happened to me!
