I have been swapping some mahogany necks around on different pots and there is one that really stands out as providing a deeper, stronger tone than the rest. It carries a certain tone with it to every pot I put it on. The problem is, it is seriously clubby. I'm talking about a real baseball bat here.
My question is whether slimming this neck down to a more reasonable profile would likely kill some of that tonality that I like about it so much? (Once its gone, I can't put it back!) Any other possible affects? I'm not talking about making it super-slim. Just average.
I guess the real issue is how much of the tonality of a neck has to do with its size and how much has to do with the wood it's cut from?
