BEEFUS say they are fancy banjo with mediocre sound, substandard workmanship. But that just BEEFUS' opinion.

I've heard and played the River King. Save up just a bit more (or buy a used) and get a Gold Star GF-85 or GF-100. You will be happy instead of being just content. The difference is in the sound. Plus I just can't get past those Korean resos....

Ummm... the River King is a $3k+ banjo.

Jeremi - call Banjo.com and they can play you a Gibson and the Morgan Monroe over the phone for you.

In order to assist you, I may have to go up to Banjo.com myself. That's it, that's what I need to do. I need to go to the store and do some research for my new Hangout friend Jeremi. I don't know, I might be there all day! Oh well, someone needs to step up and take one for the team - the sacrifices one must make...

if you really go to banjo.com and try one out that would be greatly appreciated.i,ve been playing about a year now .i cant get out of the house much due to several back surgeries,im disabled.this makes it hard to go try out new banjos.i live way out in the sticks in alabama and the nearest music store is abouut 58 miles away a drive that far is really tough on me pain wise.Thank you for your help.the river king is simply the most beautiful banjo iv ever seen.i know its corean but if the sound is 3000`00sound i would love to owne one for a reward for all my hard work the last year. if the sound is not there,im thinking about a prucha iv been looking at. thanks again jeremi

Please forgive me, forum. It was one of the Morgan Monroe middle series that I played. The name escapes me. After seeing a picture of the RiverKing, I know it was not that one. Sorry ................... I was not bashing MM, just reporting on a so-so instrument.

Well, now I went and did it…opened my big fat mouth!

Jeremi – I was planning on a Banjo.com visit next Friday 11/10. Just so you know, since they are only officially open weekdays, I occasionally take a “long lunch”. I can’t quite get up there, play, and get back in a regular lunch hour.

Second, I’m no expert, been playing since Aug 05. I am currently playing a friend’s loaner aluminum pot starter while I save for my own banjo. Because of the aluminum, every wood rim banjo I play sounds warmer, tone wise. My own ear is developing, but like I said, I’m pretty new at this myself. I don’t have the tinkerer’s expertise to advise you on fit and finish.

Thirdly – If a banjo has “captured your heart”, resistance is futile.

I’m not sure how fast you’re wanting to pull the trigger, as it were, but here is what I can offer…

I’ll go to Banjo.com next Friday, call you on my cell phone, and play any banjo in stock you’d like to hear. I’ll also try to describe how it plays/feels, at least I could tell you that I find this one easier than that one etc.

If that will work for you, email your phone number and we can coordinate off line – it will be in the afternoon, 1-3 ish.

Jeremi,

BEEFUS play other MMs. They OK for budget banjos, not so great pay lots muuny for. But BEEFUS' favoreet banjo is a old trashy $4.00 noname beater, so maybe the opinion of BEEFUS be questionable at best.

YEAH, IT IS BEEFUS!

Hi Jeremi. I play a MM Cascade and it has been a great banjo for me. I have never played a Riverking so I really cant comment on how they sound but MM in general seems to be a very good company. I am concerned however about paying that kind of money for a MM simply for resale value and the interest of prospective buyers. I have watched banjos being sold here and some on ebay and it doesnt seem that MM sells as quickly or for as much as a person would hope to get as some others do such as Hatfield,Stelling,Gibson and several others. I am in no way trying to bash MM and I have always tried to support it here and still would within a certain range of cost. Shoot I am a member of the MMM . But ultimitly it is your money and your ear and thats all that matters. Enjoy your banjo hunt.
