The popular old gospel hymn written by John Newton, a former slave trader who experienced a religious conversion; published in 1779. A fairly easy banjo arrangement.

Hi Chuck

Great arrangement for easy pickin’. This is a song that sounds great on banjo and is a good one for new players to learn.

If you ever have to play banjo for a group of seniors, pull out this song and you are an instant hit!

Thanks for posting

(Group of Seniors.......Ha! I'll be 75 YO in a few weeks. Go figure)

That's nice, Chuck!

I use an arrangement of Amazing Grace to introduce students to 3/4 time. I also think there's a beautiful connection between the song, its history, and the banjo - given that the banjo has African roots.

"Long short long" is the best I've heard this rhythm described.

I'll never believe everything should be played that way. But this makes it clear.

Maybe at faster tempos the "long" gets shorter.
