Hello folks !
So I am now a very happy (and blessed) owner of an Ome Wizard banjo in walnut 12" pot. I bought used on eBay. It is a huge upgrade from my first deering goodtime.
However, not having experience with Ebony fingerboards , I am a little concerned about the pitting and grain of the material. I have attached photos. Please tell me this normal and not consequence of mistreatment and abuse.
Is there anything I can do to protect the wood? What would you recommend?

I'm no "expert" on woods, but the color and open grain on your fretboard look more like rosewood to me, not ebony
There's nothing "wrong" with it, it looks like it should....looks good

Scott is right, that is rosewood, not ebony. The little openings in the grain are not unusual.

As others said, rosewood. Oiling the fretboard with linseed oil once per year is helpful. But the openings and grains are typical and not a flaw.

Thank you guys. It's very strange every wizard I find online has an ebony fingerboard.. and with the new ome don't have records of older Ome's from Boulder.

Those are normal cells that come with all hardwoods.
Careful oiling them which requires constant care because they turn acidic
