One of my mother's favorite tunes!
"Alice" was Alice Roosevelt, Teddy Roosevelt's daughter. In 1902, she wore a blue dress to her social debut (she was 17). Newspaper fashion columns dubbed it "Alice Blue" and people couldn't get enough of it.
The tune is from 1919's Broadway play "Irene".
