Jime & Jesse recorded "Blue Ridge Mountain Blues" for their 1972 release The Jim & Jesse Show (OD 498-04) — the first album on their Old Dominion Records label. After Jesse McReynolds' mandolin break and before the last verse there's a dobro break.
Is this BOBBY THOMPSON? In a Jim & Jesse feature in Bluegrass Unlimited Magazine, August 1970, Vol. 5, No.2 , Bobby Thompson is credited with playing "the weird-sounding, non-electrical, five-string dobro featured on some of the newer releases, such as ‘Blunder Road,’ ‘Diesel On My Tail,’ and ‘Banderilla.’ ”

That sounds like a standard dobro played with a bar to me, not a dobro banjo.

Below is a link to the discography for the Old Dominion Masters album. If you click on Blue Ridge Mountain Blues, there's a list of the musicians on the recording session. Vic Jordan is listed as the banjo player, but there's no listing for a Dobro player. It could be Thompson playing a Dobro, but I think it's more likely that it's a pedal steel studio guy on a Dobro.

Not a 5-string banjo set up with aluminum cone and spider bridge. Here's Ross Nickerson playing a resophonic banjo.
But does anyone have details on Bobby Thompson as a dobro player.
Are there session credits for Bobby where he's listed on dobro, not banjo?
